Consensual Complaint Resolution Agreement

If, after an investigation, there is an opportunity to resolve the matter between the complainant, the respondent and the SSMLT, the chair of the Counselling and Investigation Committee or a delegate will contact each of the parties to determine if each is willing to try alternate dispute resolution by a consensual complaint resolution process.

A facilitator or mediator may be used to assist in reaching a resolution satisfactory to each of the parties and the SSMLT. A formal agreement called a Consensual Complaint Resolution Agreement(CCRA) is signed between the respondent and the Counselling and Investigation Committee.

The agreement is confidential but a summary may be posted on the website. If the agreement affects the respondent member’s licence and ability to practice, the conditions or restrictions will be recorded in the member’s file and on the SSMLT’s member directory. Depending on the nature of the agreement, the member’s licence may be amended to show the conditions or may have to be surrendered to the SSMLT.

This process is intended to provide an alternative dispute resolution process and avoid the more formal hearing by the Discipline Committee.
