Internationally Educated MLT

National Occupational Classification (NOC)- 32120 (formerly 3211)

Internationally Educated MLTs are those persons that have obtained their MLT education outside Canada.  To be eligible to work as a MLT in Saskatchewan you will need to complete both the Immigration and Registration processes.

 

Immigration

 

Immigration to Canada  and registration with the SSMLT are two separate processes. It is essential that you work on both the immigration and the registration processes.


 

Registration- (National Occupational Classification (NOC)- 32120 - formerly 3211)

 

First, you must have completed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process and have either passed the CSMLS Certification exam or have been deemed eligible to write the CSMLS Certification exam.

SSMLT Licence options:

SSMLT licenses Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) in the following practice areas:

  • MLT General (includes all of Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusions, Microbiology, and Histology)
  • Diagnostic Cytology (includes Cytology and Histology)
  • Clinical Genetics

 

If you have completed the PLA technical report and you have been deemed eligible to write the Canadian Certification exam, one of the following options may apply:

You have completed the PLA Technical report and are Canadian certified or Canadian Certification exam eligible:

 

  1. If you have passed your exam and have been certified by the CSMLS and you are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or have authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), are residing in Canada:

  1. If your CSMLS PLA report has deemed you eligible to write the CSMLS exam and you are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or have authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), are residing in Canada:

If you have applied for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) and your CSMLS PLA report has deemed you eligible to write the CSMLS exam and are NOT a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or have authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), or are NOT residing in Canada:
