Registration Information

Persons may be seeking application with SSMLT may be in one of the three (3) categories. 

CSMLS Certified MLT Application

All applicants within this category must have successfully completed the Canadian MLT certification examination issued by Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and are working in another Canadian jurisdiction or are a New Graduate within 24 months with no MLT work experience.

Remember: You cannot work as a medical laboratory technologist in Saskatchewan until you have received notice from SSMLT that your license application has been approved.

New Graduate (not CSMLS certified)


A temporary practicing licence- working under supervision may be issued for a limited timeframe, to a new graduate who has graduated from a Canadian accredited MLT program within the previous 24 months. To be eligible for this license category the new graduate will have no MLT work experience and must be either eligible and registered to write the CSMLS certification exam or have written the CSMLS certification exam and is awaiting results.

Remember: You cannot work as a medical laboratory technologist in Saskatchewan until you have received notice from SSMLT that your license application has been approved.

A temporary license-working under supervision may be issued until CSMLS examination results are received.

    Internationally Educated MLT

    Internationally educated MLTs that have successfully completed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) entry to practice exam and working in another Canadian jurisdiction, refer to MLT Practicing in another province application.


    Internationally educated MLTS that have arrived in Canada and are:

    - Eligible and registered to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) entry to practice exam; or
    - Have successfully written the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) entry to practice exam.

    Immigration to Canada and registration with the SSMLT are two separate processes. It is essential that you work on both the immigration and the registration processes.

    Immigration

    Important: The immigration process can take a long time. If you are approved to immigrate to Saskatchewan, you must still be accepted and qualified to work as a medical laboratory technologist. Conversely, you may be qualified to work as a medical laboratory technologist in Saskatchewan but may not be eligible to immigrate.     Work Requirements

    To work in Saskatchewan, you must have one of the following:

    • Be a Canadian Citizen
    • Be a permanent resident of Canada
    • Have authorization to work in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations
