International Educated MLTs  Application

Internationally Educated Medical Laboratory Technologists (IEMLTs) undergo various levels of training in order to obtain the credential to practice their profession in their home country.

The Saskatchewan Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (SSMLT) has been mandated to ensure that the public is protected by ensuring a minimum professional standard is obtained in order to be issued a License to Practice the profession in Saskatchewan.

For IEMLTs that have not completed the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessement (PLA) please refer to IEMLT information guide

If you have successfully completed the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment and/or Certification exam and wish to apply to this category, you must be one of the following :

Categories

CSMLS Certified

International Educated MLT that have successfully challenged the CSMLS Certification Exam may be eligible for a practicing licence as follows:

1. If you are currently registered and working as a MLT in a regulated province in Canada, apply as Canadian certified application. 
Complete form, payment and submit all required documents.
2. If you are currently registered and working as a MLT in a non-regulated province in Canada, select Canadian Certified application. 
Complete form, payment and submit all required documents.
3. If you have not worked as a MLT in Canada the following applies:

Documents must be reviewed by SSMLT office to determine application eligibility.
Send all documents via email to info@ssmlt.org subject line 'Application documents for review'

Documents required:

• Evidence of Certification - CSMLS Certificate

• Evidence of Education - CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment-complete document

• Evidence of Membership - CSMLS member card (if applicable)

• Evidence of required Continuing Professional Education (within the previous 5 years)

• Evidence of required Practice hours (within the previous 5 years)

Note: Applicants that do not provide evidence of the required Continuing Professional Education or Practice Hours may be considered for a Temporary Practicing Licence.

Following initial document review, SSMLT may request the applicant request original document(s) be sent directly to SSMLT from source

CSMLS Certification Exam - Results Pending

International Educated MLT that has challenged the CSMLS Certification Exam but is awaiting results may apply for a temporary licence-working under supervision.

Documents must be reviewed by SSMLT office to determine application eligibility.
Send all documents via email to info@ssmlt.org subject line 'Application documents for review'

Documents required:

•  Evidence of current Certification Exam Eligibility - CSMLS letter of eligibility to write CSMLS exam

     -Documentation must include applicant name and date of exam

•  Evidence of Education CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment- must be complete and indicate date(s) of exam eligibility

•  Evidence of Membership - CSMLS member card (if applicable)

• Evidence of required Continuing Professional Education (within the previous 5 years)

• Evidence of required Practice hours (within the previous 5 years)

• Complete and Submit Acknowledgement of Supervision Form

Following initial document review, SSMLT may request the applicant request original document(s) be sent directly to SSMLT from source

Note: Members must inform SSMLT of CSMLS Examination Results

CSMLS Certification Exam Eligible

International Educated MLT that is eligible to challenge the CSMLS Certification Exam may apply for a temporary licence-working under supervision.

Documents must be reviewed by SSMLT office to determine application eligibility.
